Faith & Reason

While reading The Sun,a literary journal I wish all writers and those who love good writing would read, I came upon the following two quotes.

Religion. It's given people hope in a world torn apart by religion.
                     - Jon Stewart

Half the people in the world think that the metaphors of their religious traditions are facts. And the other half contends that they are not facts at all. As a result, we have people who consider themselves believers because they accept metaphors as facts, and we have others who classify themselves as atheists because they think religious metaphors are lies.
                      - Joseph Campbell

Both of these quotes offer insights into character motivations that we as writers can take and synthesize into the creation of ever more complicated human beings. Spirituality and faith are an element present in all people, like it or not, and often drives their actions and discourse in ways that are subtle and unsubtle.
