National Book Award Challenge

Okay. I hate to use the word challenge in the title, but will keep it for the moment. The reason why, I believe it should be a pleasure for any writer and avid reader to work through the list of National Book Award winners.

So what is it?

Basically, the award is issued by the National Book Foundation and is one of the most, if not the most prestigious awards in the US. Categories include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translations, and young people’s literature. The awards for fiction began in 1950 as did the category general nonfiction, though that has changed a bit.

I’m starting with the fiction award and the first book is The Man with the Golden Arm by Nelson Algren.

Can’t wait to get started and see what I learn as a writer and reader.
