The difference between telling and showing usually boils down to the physical senses. Visual, aural aromatic words take us out of our skin and place us in the scene you’ve created.
Example of good description:
“His eyes were very blue, and when he was tired, one of them wandered outward a little.”
“Her face had the ivory tinge of atabrine; her hair which had once been the color of bottled honey was dark and stringy with sweat.”
